Sep 22 - 2008, Nigeria Interbank Settlement System (NIBSS) signs partnership agreement with MoneyBox Africa
The Nigerian Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), a government department under the CBN has signed an agreement with MBA to provide back-end settlement on the new national switch. This arrangement will enable seamless settlement of MoneyBox transactions on all banks.

Mobility And Aid Research Development Company (MAARDEC) signs partnership agreement with MoneyBox Africa
MAARDEC partners with MoneyBox Africa Limited, with the aim of ensuring the empowerment of the physically challenged, as MoneyBox dealers and agents and ultimately beneficiaries of the convenience that MoneyBox services offer. The majority of physically challenged individuals in Nigeria have limited or zero access to financial institutions, due to the exorbitant cost of transportation to banks and the restrictive access points at banking locations. MoneyBox will enable the physically challenged perform basic financial transactions.

In January 2009, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), issued MoneyBox Africa Limited an approval to launch their Mobile Money Services. This is the culmination of over nine months of grueling deliberations and presentations to CBN officials. The regulatory approval will enable MBAL forge ahead with their comprehensive plans of developing and sustaining the intricate ecosystem required to successfully launch a Mobile Money Operation.

Jan 20 - 2010, GTZ awards €400,000 (N80m) to MoneyBox Africa
The German Agency For Technical Partnership (GTZ) awarded a 400,000 euro Grant to MoneyBox Africa to aid in the company’s development and deployment of their Mobile Money Ecosystem. The funds are dedicated to internal capacity building, marketing, product and service awareness and the development of a sustainable dealer and agent network.

Feb 24 - 2010, Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund (AECF) awards $1.5m (N225m) Grant to MoneyBox Africa
MoneyBox Africa was awarded a development Grant, worth $1.5m after several months of intense competition between over 200 companies all over Africa, in which 22 companies were chosen to be beneficiaries of AECF’s Grant.
The Grant is intended to support the building of a mobile money ecosystem to extend financial services to the unbanked population in Nigeria.
The Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund (AECF) is a US$50-100m private sector fund, backed by some of the biggest names in development finance and hosted by the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA). Our aim is to encourage private sector companies to compete for investment support for their new and innovative business ideas.
AECF is funded by the Australian Government (AusAID), the Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP), the UK Department for International Development (DFID), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs (NMFA).

Apr 07 - 2010 Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) issues the first Universal Short Code for Mobile Money Operations to MoneyBox Africa
The Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) issued the first Universal Short Code to MoneyBox Africa, the first Mobile Money Operator in Nigeria. This short code will enable subscribers perform Mobile Money transactions using one short code for both GSM and CDMA networks, thereby eliminating the need to remember different short codes for different networks. The networks are currently provisioning the short code, preparatory to the commercial launch of MoneyBox services.
The number is: 6691, representing (MNYΙ).

Authorities in the University of Lagos (Unilag) have issued an approval to MoneyBox Africa to launch a Mobile Money Pilot on its premises. The University has a population of about 50,000 people consisting of students, lecturers, non-academic staff, secondary and primary schools, churches and mosques, petrol stations, restaurants, pharmacies and supermarkets. The University represents a microcosm of Nigeria, and is therefore expected to be a perfect Pilot location.
